The general appearance is that of Phyllostachys viridis from which they come by mutation, but the coloring of the stems differs. They come out very light green, slightly striped with darker green, then quickly turn golden yellow and the green striations persist.
It enjoys clayey terrains.
Isolated plants, small woodlands, forests.
The stem coloration make this a highly sought after bamboo by amateurs.
