Origin
China. Introduced in Japan and India long ago.
Local name
Unmon-chiku (Japan) *Withstands -20ºC.
Features
Stems can reach 100 to 120 mm in diameter, dark green sometimes bluish with disseminated brown spots, of variable size. Dark, very thin and dense foliage.
Care
This rustic bamboo does very well in all situations.
Uses
Isolated tufts, small woodlands.
Benefits
Notable for its fine, shiny foliage, but above all for its spotted stems. These are particularly valuable if exposed to the sun: they then turn yellow with brown patches, evoking leopard skin. The young sprouts are very beautiful, especially when they reach large diameters. They almost have an animal appearance.
