Kikko-chiku (Japan), (Turtle Shell Bamboo) *Withstands -19ºC.
This is a mutation of P. pubescens. It differs because many stems have oblique knots in the lower part without branches. Those between knots thickened on one side and shortened on the other give a curious aspect to the stems which are highly appreciated in China and Japan.
The same as P. pubescens. It is advisable to eliminate stems that do not have the “Kikko” characteristics as soon as they leave the earth.
Isolated, tufts, massifs.
Extremely curious and decorative shape.
